WHAT IS RUGGED ENTERTAINMENT RELEASING?

HISTORY: Rugged was formed in 2007 by filmmaker Peter Spirer and produced documentary and narrative films.  Rugged began a partnership with XLrator Media in 2015 to distribute documentary programming. Rugged produced and help deliver such films such as Queen Mimi, Who The F**K Is That Guy, The Legend of 420, Smash, on Netflix and Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation on Starz.  In 2019 Rugged created a distribution company specializing in indie films.

TITLES PER YEAR: Our goal is to release 8-12  films a year. Rugged is looking to acquire finished films however we are first and foremost filmmakers who have produced and delivered over 40 feature length films.  We are creating a unique model and are looking to discover films in various stages of production that are on their way to telling unique and engaging stories. With the right film our goal is to begin a partnership advising and consulting with filmmakers regarding creative and legal delivery and strategies to become successful. We want to help filmmakers understand the filmmaking process and guide them to the finish line without facing insurmountable obstacles.

TYPES OF RELEASES: Although event-based theatrical screenings are important for exposure,  our focus is digital platforms and maximizing SVOD iVOD and AVOD.

RIGHTS: Our rights are primarily for OTT platforms worldwide with certain exceptions.

TERM: 5 - 7 years. If you're not making money with us, we aren’t making money with you.  Why should we keep your film.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: We are looking to find the right outlets for  filmmakers to connect with their audience. We are looking for films that give voice to the voiceless, that look at common stories uncommonly.  Films that want to change the world or just entertain in an exciting way and tell us something about the way the world works that we didn't already know.

SOCIAL MEDIA: We want filmmakers to be engaged with their audience.  Social media is an important component. We want to know that  filmmakers can identify their audience and connect with them. Our motto is, "niches makes riches.”  Connecting with your niche is paramount.

FESTIVALS:  We attend a variety of festivals but it’s not our focus.  We enjoy regional festivals and find the climate for acquisition easier.   We are looking for films that can make a dent in the marketplace. Sometimes festival acclaim helps, sometimes it doesn’t, but we are looking at the bigger picture.  Some of our best success stories were films overlooked by festivals.

EMPLOYEES: Under ten.

SUBMISSIONS: If you have a sizzle or a treatment for a film you are about to begin production on, send it to us.  We have three minutes for everyone. If you are submitting an already finished film, send us a password-protected link.
